- I smile at every single person I pass.
- Out of the blue, I give a complete stranger a compliment.
The other part of my experiment was a little tricky, but it was fun to watch how people react when you compliment them out of the blue. While walking in the quad, I pass many of the same people everyday. We never talk. We have no idea what each other’s names are, but they are familiar faces. So, each day I choose one person, at random, and compliment them. Most people blush, laugh, and smile while thanking me. I’m sure many of them think I’m crazy or weird for stopping them just to give them a simple compliment, but I did find out recently that my compliment meant something to someone.
So, as you see, you make a difference. Something small is really something big. Don’t discount your interactions with people. Your choices affect everyone around you. So smile! Life is waiting for you out there. Make the best of it!
